I was told that I need to be the better person over a situation......
I have one sister. Besides my mother, that's all my family other than a cousin.
I graduate with my Master's in May , 3 hours away. It is sort of a big deal.
Sister told my mom they are not coming because her husband wants to go to a concert the night before and they may schedule a baseball tournament for my nephew.
Hard to be the better person.

Congrats on your hard work coming to fruition. I'm sorry your sister won't share your success with you. Totally different circumstances, but my particular small family(i.e. the family created when we got married and had children) is going through something very terrible right now. I reached out for support to my brother/his family and got little to nil. It hurt, but then I realized through the years of growing up that's how it was always. I wanted something more than was there. Perhaps that's the same between you and your sister/family. Be proud of your achievements even if others aren't willing to share them with you.

Don't think of it as being the better person. Just accept that that's the way it is. Your sister doesn't have her priorities straight, but did she ever? She's the one missing out, not you. However, if it were me, I would tell her that I was hurt (or in my case, I'd be mad) that she chose a concert over me, then I would tell her that she will never be asked to participate in anything else in my life, and I'd mean it.
Of course, that's my being angry at her for your sake. Easy for me to say what I'd do when it's not me. Betty, as usual, gave the best advice. Be proud of your achievements. It is, indeed a big deal. Good for you!
I guess in the long run, it's best to forgive her, accept her for what she is, and maybe even pity her a little that she can't figure out what is really important in life.
